Awesome Orgs in Thailand: AWC of Thailand

As a Peace Corps volunteer in any country, we have a pretty unique and in depth perspective on the problems that face our host countries. As such, we also have many opportunities to partner with other organizations that are also doing good work in our respective countries. I’ve had a chance to see and hear about some of the real, on the ground differences that a variety of organizations are making here in Thailand, and thought I would share their good work with you.

First, I’m going to highlight the American Women’s Club of Thailand, because I got to spend this past weekend working with them at their annual English Camp in rural Isaan (northeastern Thailand).

Bpai Tiao: Yasothon’s Bun Bang Fai (Rocket) Festival

In Thailand, a bpai tiao is a trip of any length. I’ve written about some of my more significant bpai tiaos to tourist destinations here, to be used as travel ideas and tips.

Previously, I posted about the festivals that I was planning on attending this year in Thailand, one of which was the Rocket Festival in Yasothon. That took place this past weekend and I made it out to rural Isaan just for the occasion.

5 Can’t Miss Festivals in Thailand

Now that I’ve been here for a year, I kind of have a grasp on what some of the big celebrations Thailand has and I’ve heard of some smaller, local festivals. So much Thai culture is steeped throughout the year and released all at once in these annual festivals, from celebrations of victorious battles to honoring spirits and ghosts, from taking pride in local ruins and historical sites to making merit and honoring the water spirits, there is likely a celebration of some kind just around the corner. Here are the ones that I am most looking forward to going to this year.
